Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is at the center of a heated legal dispute after his wife, Tia Jones, accused him of domestic violence. While Jones was recently granted a temporary protective order against him, Worthy is now pushing back with serious accusations of his own. The NFL star claims that Jones has been the aggressor in their troubled relationship and that she stole valuable items from his home while he was in jail.
The controversy began after Jones filed for the protective order, alleging that Worthy had assaulted her on multiple occasions over the past year. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Jones claims that Worthy physically attacked her at least five times, with one of the most serious incidents occurring around Valentine’s Day. She alleges that during an argument about his alleged infidelity, Worthy grabbed her throat with both hands and shook her violently.
Jones further claims that their latest confrontation on March 7 was the most violent yet, leading to Worthy’s arrest. He was booked on a charge of assaulting a family or household member by impeding their breath or circulation. However, in a surprising turn, Williamson County authorities decided not to charge him, a decision that has only added to the controversy surrounding the case.
Despite this, Jones’s attorney, Angelica Cogliano, insists that the investigation into Worthy’s actions is still ongoing. She dismissed claims that the case had been closed, calling such reports “patently false.” Jones’s protective order against Worthy will remain in place at least until a scheduled hearing on April 1.
Worthy, however, has strongly denied all allegations made against him. His attorney, Sam Bassett, released a statement asserting that his client is innocent and calling Jones’s accusations “false and unfounded.” Bassett emphasized that law enforcement had conducted a thorough review of the case and ultimately chose not to move forward with charges.
“Unfortunately, false allegations continue to be made, this time in civil court,” Bassett said. “Today, the accuser returned items stolen from Mr. Worthy’s residence while he was in jail, and there are still items missing from when he was incarcerated. Mr. Worthy maintains his innocence and stands by the conclusions of the district attorney after law enforcement’s review of Ms. Jones’s unfounded allegations.”
Worthy is not only denying the accusations but also taking legal action of his own. His legal team claims that Jones has actually been the aggressor in their relationship and has refused to leave his home despite being asked multiple times. Furthermore, Worthy alleges that while he was behind bars, Jones and her associates entered his residence and removed valuable belongings without his permission. His attorneys argue that this was an intentional effort to harm him financially and damage his reputation.
“Mr. Worthy had hoped that he would have a long-term relationship with Ms. Jones,” his legal team stated. “It is a sad commentary that after she has been asked to leave his residence on multiple occasions, she refused and now continues to make false allegations and defamatory statements to extort him.”
While previous reports suggested that Worthy and Jones were only engaged, new information indicates that the couple was actually married in July 2024. What once appeared to be a promising relationship has now spiraled into a highly publicized legal battle.
As this dispute unfolds, the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL have acknowledged the situation and are currently gathering information. Worthy, who was the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick in 2024, had an impressive rookie season, recording 742 total yards and nine touchdowns. However, with his legal troubles now making headlines, his future in the league could be in jeopardy.
The case remains ongoing, with both Worthy and Jones standing firm in their positions. The upcoming court hearing on April 1 is expected to be a crucial moment in determining the next steps in this high-profile dispute. As the battle between the two continues to play out in both the courts and the media, Worthy’s football career hangs in the balance.
