Paul Danan, the English actor renowned for his role as Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap opera “Hollyoaks,” was found dead at the age of 46 in his luxury apartment near Bristol. Danan had been candid about his struggles with addiction, having undergone 17 stints in rehabilitation for issues related to cocaine and vaping. In June 2024, he was hospitalized for respiratory failure and pneumonia, conditions he attributed to his excessive vaping habit.
Born on July 2, 1978, in Chigwell, Essex, to a Moroccan Jewish family, Danan attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. He gained prominence in “Hollyoaks” from 1997 to 2001 and later appeared on reality TV shows such as “Celebrity Love Island” in 2005 and 2006, and “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2017.
Despite his personal battles, Danan was dedicated to helping others. He founded The Morning After Theatre Company, offering drama workshops to individuals recovering from addiction and those with mental health challenges. In a December 2024 interview on GB News, he discussed his own mental health struggles and the importance of giving back to the community.
Tributes have poured in from friends and colleagues. Calum Best, who appeared alongside Danan on “Celebrity Love Island,” described him as “one of the funniest, kindest, and most authentic people I’ve known.” Presenter Hayley Palmer recalled their time together on Love Sport Radio, stating, “He was one of the first to reach out to me when I wasn’t in a good place last year.”
Danan is survived by his nine-year-old son, DeNiro. Friends have set up a GoFundMe campaign to support DeNiro’s future, aiming to raise £10,000. Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Paul Danan’s openness about his struggles and his efforts to assist others leave a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry and beyond.
